Overview

Gentrification is a process of urban change in which an area becomes more desirable, often leading to increased property values and the displacement of existing residents. In the case of Flemingdon Park, the new Eglinton LRT is the catalyst for the rapid development and increase of proposals. The improved accessibility often encourages businesses and wealthier individuals to move into an area that was formerly less desirable due to its lack of amenities or infrastructure. As these newcomers bring with them more money and resources, they are able to outbid existing residents for homes and other properties, driving up prices in the process. These changes often lead to displacement for lower-income households who cannot afford the higher costs associated with gentrification.
