The major objectives of this research are to showcase the comparisons between race motivated self image in older and younger South Asian women through statistics and secondary research interviews with South Asian women of a varied age group. More specifically, investigating the relationship between skin tone and self esteem among South Asian women through a multigenerational comparison, providing a deeper understanding on how skin tone bias continues everyday, while normalising eurocentric beauty standards. This research provides clarity on how skin tone bias manifests itself among women, both younger and older, according to their life stage and role in their family.

My research falls within the field of anthropology and deals primarily with beauty standards within South Asian women. During my formative research, I explored the idea of Eurocentric Beauty through the eyes of Asian women. In this research I discovered what “Beauty” looked like in the eyes of Asian women living in both Asia and Western countries. I had discovered how this differed from each other and that women in western countries usually have a more positive self-esteem and are less affected by Eurocentric beauty standards than women living in Asia. I had also explored what beauty practises women undergo to look more Eurocentric and how this affects their self-esteem. Due to this research on Asian women being so broad and vast, I had decided to narrow my topic down to focusing on South Asian women in specific.
