The creation of the internet created an accessible space for us to communicate with each other no matter where we are in the world. And because of this, we've witnessed how collective voices can be utilized to create change concerning specific topics, people, and corporations. However the current dialogue surrounding cancel culture, really diminishes the concept as a whole. The fundamentals of cancel culture derive from past instances of boycotting, shaming, alienating, and blacklisting. All of which have been successful practices in the past, however, for some reason cancel culture and the act of cancelling is often overlooked. So, this inspired my thesis project.
